In 2012, PETRONAS repainted the buildings and replaced the exterior mosquito netting on all windows and doors of the Juba Orphanage. Vice President for Development and Production, Datuk Abdullah Karim, also introduced a double-bed system in the dormitories to ease congestion and has pledged to repair the water system. PETRONAS also hosts annual Christmas luncheons at the Orphanage.

The oil producing company PETRONAS launched a “back to school programme” targeting between 1,000 to 2,500 primary school pupils in South Sudan, as part of the company’s corporate social investment obligation. The initiative will initially cater for pupils attending Atlabara, Kamuyangi and Juba One Girls basic schools.
