The Rotary Club of Juba supports the 76 orphans by various activities. In December 2009, the club organized a Christmas party for the children, with food, gifts and games. To celebrate the chartering of the club, the club provided the orphanage with supply of clean water to reduce the number of water-borne diseases affecting the children.
The Rotary Club of Juba started with a small announcement on the Google Group “Jubalicious” in April 2009. A Rotarian since 1985, Michael Elmquist was disappointed to find that there was no Rotary Club in South Sudan, and in fact only one club in all of Sudan, Africa’s largest country. Through “Jubalicious” he invited other interested persons to join in an effort to create a Rotary Club. Already the following week, the prospective club held its first meeting at the Juba Grand Hotel. The number of members increased rapidly, and soon the prospective club was ready to seek recognition from Rotary International. The Rotary Club of Juba, South Sudan, was chartered on 16 March 2010. The club meets every Tuesday evening at 6pm at Home and Away. Guests are welcome, and can be announced in advance to the Club Secretary via email.
